This is the Digest from 2002 for the Category of: Enterprise Sato Pairing

8Many Happy Returns
It was great fun to watch these two dance around each other. Malcolm in all is his awkwardness and Hoshi in her shyness. Love the ending, and Cutler's role in the little adventure.

11Vox Iuvenium
Another great story. This time even more fun because we have a too bright and too young Sato running rings around Archer. I've gotta love that! Wonderful dialogue and ultimately kind of sad for the old boy. Not that I mind. ;-)

9Shuttlepod One -- Optimistic Tendencies
What a nice way to finish off the episode. Very sweet and I loved Trip's comment at the end.

3Hermes' Last Message
Death! Pain! Angst! Hoshi kicking ass!I know it's a bit of a departure from Taryn's old style, but it reads to well. Possibly my favourite of her Mythology series. And, of course, I'm a sucker for angst... ;)

1mBest Laid Plans
Fun story about Tucker, Sato, and Reed. I liked the easy banter between them and the complications brought in by the appearance of Trip's old flame Natalie. The ending was cute.

2Good Intentions
Nice tale of Reed as Sato's "secret Santa." The author hit Reed's voice well, and I enjoyed his interaction with "San-clus." I liked how Porthos got into the action and how Cutler played cupid. Loved Reed's embarrassment and that last line. "Good Intentions" was a pleasing holiday story.

3Hermes' Last Message
I liked how much emotion was packed into the very short space of "Hermes Last Message." I also liked how the author contrasted the different callings of Hoshi and Malcolm and how Hoshi felt taking over Malcolm's role. Nicely done story, well-written and narrated with a memorable ending. Another story by Taryn this year I liked a lot.

4Hoshi's Box: Security Hazard
I liked the interaction here between Sato and Reed and the banter between them. I smiled at Reed's quip that since he ate everything that was placed in front of him as a boy he had great practice in eating terrible food.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 05:21:07 -0500

5Ice
Interesting set up of a mystery and an intrigue and good sequel to last year's "Rain."
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 05:21:42 -0500

6If Wishes Were Horses
I enjoyed how in Reed's dream each character was transformed into suitable nobility.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 05:22:25 -0500

7Knock Three times
A cute Reed/Sato vignette.

8Many Happy Returns
I thought this very nicely captured Hoshi's and Malcolm's voices, the diffidence and shyness, and the dynamic between them. Jamelia is very good at depicting the sexual and romantic tension. I liked Hoshi's gift to Malcolm and her comment that her being a good student comes of being a teacher. I also liked how the author described that uneasy dance when people are first getting to know each other. For instance, the authors relates details like the way Malcolm worried he was crowding Hoshi's personal space then worried as he moved back if he was sending the wrong message. It was interesting not only to get both their point of views but how an outsider (Cutler) saw the relationship. I liked how they built a bridge to each other through language for things that go "boom." A good story about that most awkward first stage of a relationship.

9Shuttlepod One -- Optimistic Tendencies
I liked this story. It is well-written and characterized and a nice coda to "Shuttlepod One." The title "Optimistic Tendencies" is a nice allusion to the episode that sets up our expectations. Each crew regular is nicely drawn and I thought the short passage with the Phlox point of view in particular was a hoot. Nice nod too in a Reed/Sato story to Reed's dream sequence in the episode with T'Pol. I thought that was handled very neatly. And Tucker's last comment and Reed's rejoinder and last thought was priceless and a perfect ending. An enjoyable, well-done story.

10Sweet Torture
I liked the story of Trip and his 3 loves and how what he wanted from each.

11Vox Iuvenium
There is a lot of emotion packed into the very short package of this wonderful and very memorable story. This time Nostalgia in "Vox luvenium" unpacks the relationship between Archer and Sato for us to appreciate. The language of the story is clean, spare, and the characterizations and voices ring very true to me. It seemed singularly appropriate that a Sato story features such a sensitive, deft use of language as "Vox luvenium" does. I loved the rich and vivid dialogue between Archer and Sato. Sato's first words to Archer and his recognition of their truth delights. "Vox luvenium" is sometimes painful with those kinds of difficult truths such as the brightness of youth and the assumptions that age dulls. The last words cut with that truth. This is a very well done story featuring a pairing that could be very hard to sell but not in Nostalgia's very capable and sure hands. I loved "Vox luvenium!"

8Many Happy Returns
Jamelia did a nice job of capturing the oddly-sweet attraction (and fumbling awkwardness) between Reed and Sato, as well as pointing up the eventual stronger feelings between them. I liked the references to the pineapple (aka The Great Favorite Food Hunt) as well as their shared time in the decon chamber (they *were* sitting awfully close together). And it makes perfect sense for her to be teaching him Klingon phrases.

11Vox Iuvenium
One of my favorite ENT stories this year. I love Hoshi here - she is flip, irreverent and holds her own with Archer very well. It's a story I never get tired of - not only because of the beautiful use of language but also some really wonderful one-liners.

4Hoshi's Box: Security Hazard
I really enjoyed this one! The dialogue between Sato and Reed is fun and even better, the surprise in the box!

8Many Happy Returns
Janet is the first author who made me see the possibility of a relationship between Hoshi and Reed. This story is a perfect example of that. I really enjoy the interaction between the two - the perfect balance between friendship that could evolve into something more.
-- Seema - Tue, 04 Mar 2003 18:21:32 -0500

2Good Intentions
A very enjoyable read. Reed's uncertainty over what to give Hoshi, transforming to embarrassment when he discovered exactly what it was the shopkeeper had recommended, was so in character, as was Hoshi's graciousness. I loved Cutler's intervention, and the fact that you even included Porthos in the gift-giving ... a nice touch.
-- TLin - Sun, 09 Mar 2003 12:39:11 -0500

5Ice
An excellent continuation of the story started in "Rain".
-- TLin - Sun, 09 Mar 2003 13:06:40 -0500

7Knock Three times
A cute, mildly sensual (much like the coulpe), vignette.

Ooh, an unhappy ending for one of the most underrated pairings in ENT fandom, A/S. V. nice.(Please disregard my earlier vote in this category, I was corrected in my error by nostalgia. Thanks!)

1mBest Laid Plans
This was a great romp, and quite romantic too! I love the friendship between Trip and Malcolm, the way they joke with each other so casually. And it's lots of fun to see Trip and Hoshi rescuing one another from their alien bar misadventures. Drog cracked me up, especially the speculation on what a female Drog would look like.

2Good Intentions
Oh, this one was fun -- what a cute Christmas story! Gotta love those presents and poor Malcolm's embarrassment. Hee hee.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 10:56:20 -0500

4Hoshi's Box: Security Hazard
Well, that *was* quite a surprise, and it's fun, if not altogether realistic, to see Hoshi calmly dealing with the situation.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 11:01:25 -0500

6If Wishes Were Horses
This medieval fantasy is great fun from beginning to end, as our brave knight Malcolm has to prove his strength and valor to win Hoshi as his bride. Loved it!

11Vox Iuvenium
Archer is made out to be a boring old fart in this story, less than ideal in the romance department, but (snicker) somehow it seems appropriate. Torment him some more, nostalgia, you do it so well!
