This is the Digest from 2002 for the Category of: Janeway / Chakotay

2Adagio by Cait N.
A cute AU story that takes a fun look at what if Janeway and Chakotay had met at the Academy.

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
The Albatross is a lovely, bittersweet, and quite realistic Janeway/Chakoty tale. Wonderfully written, this story shows that the course of love is neither true nor sometimes even all that satisfying, in this story love may just be a step on the way to two people accomplishing out what they were meant to be. This is a very interesting look at Chakotay too, as we listen in on his thoughts and wishes. I really like the Seven and Janeway characterizations here. Nothing is simple or trite. These are complex and somewhat damaged characters. . All very true to the where I think these folks would have ended up.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:20:38 -0500

7Coffee Fiend by janezy
I think Chakotay has bitten off more than he can chew here. LOL! Fun story.

8Daddy's Girl by Cait N.
Very sweet tale. Seems pretty AU now, but there was a time when I could see these two this way.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:21:50 -0500

10Dead by SaRa
A dark, well-written look at responsibility and love. Very sad Chakotay here.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:22:20 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
Interesting dinner with Chakotay and Janeway, where they discuss some very interesting questions about parameters.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:22:46 -0500

12Easy by Rocky
It's an old fanfic standard, but there's just something too good to resist about missions gone awry and handy-dandy caves. Nice portrayal of Janeway, showing her struggling with too many years of problems.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:23:17 -0500

15Hollow by janezy
I don't want to spoil the story so I'll just say this is an interesting way to explain something.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:23:53 -0500

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
Amazing recap of the Janeway/Chakotay relationship. I love the retrospective feel, the brief visits to each time, and the POV from a more and more hope-challenged Chakotay. Wonderful look at a Janeway that isn't all that likeable even if she is capable. Very nice ending, clever in the way it plays with what we saw, giving it a nod, then moving on firmly.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:24:23 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
A lovely coda. The resolution we wish J/C had indulged in at some point in the journey.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:24:47 -0500

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
God, how I love this story! And what a treat to have Penny Proctor doing some fine J/C again! This was a response to a challenge, and a most excellent response it is. Penny gives us the Janeway and Chakotay that the powers that be could never bring themselves to give us after the first few seasons. Romantic and touching, Oasis shows a Kathryn Janeway who isn't afraid to risk speaking the truth and a Chakotay who always knew it. They are friends, and I believe it. The ease and love these two characters show as they try to survive in the desert is just wonderfully drawn. And the ending...it's great! I hope to see more of these wonderfully romantic J/C stories by Penny next year!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:25:11 -0500

23Quit by Rocky
Chakotay is a natural angst magnet and Rocky evokes him and his relationship with Janeway so well. I loved the flashbacks, very nicely done. Definitely got a very creeped out feeling at the end.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:25:46 -0500

24Raconteur by Cait N.
Bwa ha ha! You just really never do know who --or what-- might be watching!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:26:07 -0500

25Rank Has Its Privileges by Rocky
Sparkling dialogue and very fun Janeway and Chakotay characterizations make this story shine. These two are definitely a version of J/C that are headed in the right direction!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:26:32 -0500

26RESOLUTION AND COMMITMENT by T'Lin
A gentle look at what might have happened on New Earth.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:27:12 -0500

27The Rose Garden by RoseKira
Now this is different! And I do so love different. In The Rose Garden, RoseKira weaves a tangled and very harsh look at a Chakotay who could have existed, might even existed. This bitter Janeway is a little harder to accept because she's not a Janeway that I wanted to accept, but, in the end, I did accept her and her story--RoseKira convinced me. This is a doozy of a story. Well done!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:27:32 -0500

30Speaking into the silence by vanhunks
A wonderful coda to Coda. Nice examination of the effect of a tragedy on the one left behind.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:28:06 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
Wonderful and poignant, this story shows what it's like to lose your way, and then find it again with a little help from those who care about you. An interesting tale that doesn't quite go where you think it will, it goes somewhere better...and more real. I loved this version of Janeway and Chakotay and the way they interact. And the ending is perfect!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:28:30 -0500

33Time Standing Still I & II by Tracy Thurman
A well-written, bittersweet outing. I love these chance meeting stories!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:28:56 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
And Baby Makes Five is hilarious! I don't know when I've laughed out loud this much at a Janway/Chakotay story! Seema proves here that she can go from serious J/C fic to humor without missing a beat. Tom Paris was the perfect commentator on the blessed event . And Seema captured every possible low moment of the event, ROFL! And she did it while nicely skewering some fanfic cliches! I think the send up of poor Chakotay, and Harry to the rescue were my favorites. Although the image of pregnant and moody Janeway sitting in her chair with very sharp and pointed needles is not one that's soon going to leave me! Well done!
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:29:39 -0500

34Touching Feeling by SaRa
Short and very bittersweet look at the J/C dynamic. Rang quite true to me.
-- Djinn - Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:30:04 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
An absolutely beautiful story that Jemima was intent of depriving the ASC of for some time. Criminal of her! The story is a wonderfully complex portrait of Janeway, a delicate treatment of the Janeway/ Chakotay relationship and a thoughtful and inspired explanation for the disappearance of the Borg baby. It's such a gorgeous piece of writing too - one of my favourite Jemima stories but also one of my favourite Trek stories.
-- Christinecgb - Sun, 23 Mar 2003 00:35:36 -0500

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
Wonderful. Romantic and ethereal, chalk full of angst.
-- Ananke - Sun, 23 Mar 2003 14:30:54 -0500

2Adagio by Cait N.
A cute 'what if' story about Janeway and Chakotay meeting at the Academy.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:12:44 -0500

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
If this is truly Christine's J/C 'swan song', at least we have the comfort of the fact she's leaving us with a lovely story. I really enjoyed the symbolism of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and the clear-sighted observations of the characters and their behaviors.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:14:09 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
This has got to be the most hysterical Janeway pregnancy story ever written. Seema doesn't miss a beat in skewering every single cliche of the genre, and then some. Wonderful images and phrases, all through the eyes of that hapless narrator, Tom Paris.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:15:26 -0500

7Coffee Fiend by janezy
Someone should warn Chakotay that trying to talk Kathryn Janeway out of having coffee is an effort that's doomed to fail, even if he does manage to sidetrack her temporarily.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:16:07 -0500

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
Figuring out the secret of this story early on did not detract in any way from nor lessen my enjoyment of this beautifully written piece. This is the Janeway and Chakotay I remember, the ones I wish they could have been past the first few seasons of the show. Their conversation, especially what had transpired on New Earth and the legend of the angry warrior, was exactly what I wanted to see them finally say to each other. I also thought the 'Angry Warrior' didn't try hard enough, should have realized despite her denials just how much the woman warrior needed him by her side, and I've never been able to rationalize how Chakotay could just give up on her. Djinn did a wonderful job of evoking what was literally as well as figuratively a deathless love, transcending time and place.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:17:12 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
I'm always happy when Seema can be persuaded to write a J/C story, because she does it so well! So many lovely touches in this story that raise it above the standard 'J/C discuss the boundaries of their relationship' stories.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:17:57 -0500

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
This story was heartbreakingly beautiful. I had to read it over a few times to fully grasp it--and each time I found further nuances embedded in the narrative. I love Chakotay's patience, his being afraid to hope, yet always trying to lead her back 'home.' There are few if any J/C fics out there that capture his devotion more fully. As to the rest of the story, the subtle little hints as to what was really going on, together with the larger clues, adds up to something which is truly more than the sum of its parts. And painful as thepicture painted is, I can't help but wish *this* had been the reality, as opposed to the scattered events and interpretation foisted on us by TPTB.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:19:12 -0500

18Morning Light by Djinn
This could have turned into one of those 'morning after recrimination' scenes which ends with all the old accusations being dredged up or otherwise has them going their separate ways, but it didn't. Instead we were treated to some lovely--and sharp--dialogue, and a very satisfying conclusion.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:19:56 -0500

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
With one of the most beautiful and emotionally moving J/C stories of the year, Penny once again displays her mastery with this couple, and the unique bond--and transcendent love--that they shared.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:20:49 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
Because we can never have too many explanations for what happened to the Borg baby, or stories in which J/C renew their connection. Nice how both patients overcame their initial failure to thrive.
-- Rocky - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:25:33 -0500

2Adagio by Cait N.
Haha! This story explains a lot. Janeway meets Chakotay at the Academy -- he's there because he flunked his piloting final.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 15:36:24 -0500

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
Christine uses the title metaphor very effectively in this story, leaving the identity of the albatross nicely ambiguous and multiple. She gives me a J/C I can still believe -- full of undercurrents and symbiotic need and pain and yes, love. Great line: ". . .he goes to her as he has always done and as he imagines he always will, because maybe she needs to know that. Maybe she needs to know that this thing between then can survive anything, everything. Her."
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 15:47:00 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
I normally avoid Janeway-pregnancy stories at all costs. But because this one was by Seema. . .anyway, I read it, and I'm not sorry. Seema nicely walks the fine line between plausibility and parody. On one level, the story reads exactly like many seriously-intended preggers stories, but then. . .I laughed aloud at the babies' names, and at the line that I think perfectly sums up the pregnant Janeway: "Janeway could be found on the Bridge, seated in her chair, knitting baby clothes with very sharp and pointed needles."
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 15:54:43 -0500

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
Like one of the other commentors, I figured this story out before the end, but that didn't detract at all from the power of the tale. In fact, it made the J/C interaction all the more effective. Djinn is very good at creating strong atmosphere and telling images.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 15:59:25 -0500

15Hollow by janezy
I like the way janezy ties the literal and figurative together with the story's title. Chakotay's self-awareness here is both appealing and saddening.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 16:07:06 -0500

18Morning Light by Djinn
Yes, this is a morning-after story -- but it's also a lot more. Djinn plays nicely with the permutations of "light" and "dark" and "heavy," using the same terms with varied meanings to capture the difficult, yet strong relationship of Janeway and Chakotay. One of my favorite images (because it's so true to the way things look when you're with the one you love): "The place where her arm joined her shoulder was suddenly the most beautiful thing in the world, replaced a moment later by the curve of her chin as she turned back to him."
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 16:18:05 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
Leave it to Rocky to take a device that has been used hundreds of times and *still* make me fall for it. I enjoyed this story thoroughly.

19Night Visitor by Rocky
Leave it to Rocky to take a device that has been used hundreds of times and *still* make me fall for it. I enjoyed this story thoroughly.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 16:31:22 -0500

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
Just as Rocky did in "Night Visitor," Penny suckered me with this story. The ending did what such endings are supposed to do (at least, when presented by a writer as good as Penny): it both surprised me and felt completely inevitable.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 16:41:52 -0500

23Quit by Rocky
My favorite part of this story is the flashback section in which Chakotay remembers how he and Janeway moved into a "no strings" physical relationship. It's a scene both sexy and painful. And that union is just as unsatisfying for Chakotay as I would expect.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 16:50:41 -0500

28Saving Strangers by janezy
I LOVE this story. janezy has done a fabulous job depicting both Chakotay and the "Endgame" Admiral Janeway. She makes the two Janeways, Admiral and Captain, into two completely different characters who are at the same time the same person. It's an impressive writing tour-de-force. The only change I would make is to take out the Gretchen scene; somehow I've never been able to believe in the canon version of Janeway's childhood and mother. The story becomes too safe, I think. Still, this quibble is minor. "Saving Strangers" is a wonderful fanfic.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 17:08:38 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
So *this* is what happened to the Borg baby. I found the J/C kiss and the solution to the "mystery" very satisfying.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 17:17:32 -0500

33Time Standing Still I & II by Tracy Thurman
I very much like Tracy's characterization of Admiral Janeway; she provides an effective blend of angst and realism. Very nicely-written.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 17:19:50 -0500

2Adagio by Cait N.
This was a cute story. I liked the young Janeway and her determination.

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
I love Christine's writing. It's always so lyrical, stylish, just beautiful. "The Albatross" is certainly no exception from the rule. And it's not just a shiny surface. There are always interesting insights and interpretations of character. I like Chakotay's reflection that Janeway never makes much of good byes, no tears or regrets--maybe because she always expects to see him again, or maybe because she refuses to consider the alternative. I thought that captured a facet of Janeway's personality very neatly--the stubborn determination that can sometimes slide into denial. Seven also comes through very vividly in this story. I like how the author talks about how she masks her concern for Janeway in scientific curiosity and the oblique way she relates to Chakotay. I like the twist on Janeway's mission--and the very name of the ship. I found the ending very satisfying and true to character.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:39:20 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
This gives us a tour through every pregnancy cliche there is to the tenth power--and I love it! If B'Elanna made a formidably grumpy mother-to-be one can only imagine what Janeway would be like (Especially one cut off from her coffee!). Loved the line about the crew not being sure the pregnancy didn't last nine years instead of months. I had to laugh at Tom Paris' thought that though he had participated in making babies, he had never stayed around before to deliver them. And at Tom's observation that if the expectant father's hand had been anywhere near, Janeway would have bitten it off. The story had lots of those LOL moments, (especially a bit about a tattoo...) and more than one surprise. I enjoyed "And Baby Makes Five" thoroughly from beginning to end. How after all can you resist a story that even provides a link to Paul Anka's "Having My Baby?"
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:40:28 -0500

7Coffee Fiend by janezy
I enjoyed this story of Janeway's addiction to coffee. The story of her first memories of it and her first taste were charming. And any J/C fan's gonna love the suggested treatment for the addiction.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:42:12 -0500

8Daddy's Girl by Cait N.
Nice story with a last line to make you laugh aloud.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:42:49 -0500

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
I enjoyed this Janeway/Chakotay story very much. It breathes with the lush, romantic setting of the Yucatan so well described. I loved how Djinn wove the Mayan mythology throughout "Day of the Dead." I thought that spirituality in the story fit very well with Chakotay's character. I also loved how Djinn painted Janeway, her willful isolation and stubbornness that is about to have its comeuppance. Djinn captures Chakotay's voice and personality equally well and I very much liked the conversation between them of things that should have long been said. I also like that Djinn doesn't slight Chakotay's relationship with Seven in order to build something between Janeway and Chakotay. I love the twist at the end all the more for how Djinn plays fair with the reader. The clues were there all along and obvious once you get there, but obscured enough that you feel the pleasant shock of surprise and delicious Halloween shiver at the end.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:44:01 -0500

10Dead by SaRa
I liked how this writer did Chakotay's point of view.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:44:37 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
I liked how Seema built the romantic atmosphere and sexual tension in "Defining Boundaries"--the hint given by the place setting, the brushing of one foot against another or a momentary brush of hands culminating in the oh so suggestive hand on the knee. Seema is very good at painting a vivid picture very economically. I liked how the conversation between Janeway and Chakotay played out on more than one level. This story breathed the easy flirtatiousness of the early Janeway and Chakotay of the series.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:45:30 -0500

12Easy by Rocky
I loved how Rocky drew Janeway's thoughts in this story and how we were gradually made aware of Chakotay's presence beside her. I loved the ending and the way Rocky neatly flipped things made me smile. That last thought was pure Janeway;-) This was lovely writing and a lovely, warming story that I enjoyed a great deal.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:48:39 -0500

13He Never Looked At Me That Way by Elisabeth Cook
Well-written look at Seven's POV.

14Hold the Lift by janezy
"Hold the Lift" features a fun conversation between Chakotay and Janeway I enjoyed.

15Hollow by janezy
Interesting story of Chakotay's tattoo.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:51:38 -0500

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
I enjoyed this story of the Janeway/Chakotay relationship, told from Chakotay's point of view, very much. I could particularly relate to how Chakotay felt during the Equinox events. That he couldn't recognize her. I felt much the same as a viewer of the episode. I also liked Jemima's spin on the Fair Haven episode. I really liked how Jemima wrote from Chakotay's point of view as more for once than just a mirror to reflect Janeway but more his own person.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:52:23 -0500

18Morning Light by Djinn
I loved this Janeway/Chakotay story of the morning after. One of the things that struck me about it right off the bat is how fresh Djinn's love scenes are. Having read all of her offerings this year, I find it remarkable that they are never stale, stock scenes but have all the individuality called for by the very different personalities involved. You couldn't take a scene from her Janeway/Chakotay and plop it into one of her Chapel pairings or vice versa and have it fit. I love Djinn's Janeway/Chakotay. Among all her pairings, they're the ones that breathe a lightness and warmth. I loved how she painted the contrasts between them, Chakotay's insecurity and Janeway's confidence, his deadly seriousness, and her lightheartedness. I loved Chakotay's words to Janeway about that, his saying that their love is as different as their personalities, that if he couldn't see it, it was because her love "was in the air, where I'd never look for it. Heavy things don't hover, they land, they root. I was too busy looking down to see anything so light." I also loved how Janeway had set things up. I thought that was very much in character. "Morning Light" breathes an air of lightness and sweetness you want to bask in.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 13:56:58 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
Does a great job with Chakotay's voice and evokes Janeway strongly with telling details.

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
This story was written to answer a challenge on Enterprise and Beyond, and it was fascinating to see Penny take the framework of the challenge (put your favorite pair in the crossing the desert scenario from an Enterprise Episode) and make of it something so different from the other stories posted, so very much her own. And as always, it's wonderful to read Janeway and Chakotay in Penny's hands. The twist gave me a shiver, it was absolutely not what I was expecting (yet the story played fair with the reader) and I loved that. I loved the double meaning to the title and I really love those last lines. It was great to see this glimpse of the "original" Voyager timeline before it was changed in Endgame. Penny really suggested a lot about Janeway and the background to the story in a very compact way. I also loved how Penny handled characters such as Kim and the Doctor here. Just a lovely story, truly a treat.

Nicely romantic Janeway/Chakotay tale.

23Quit by Rocky
I loved the description of how when Chakotay first met Janeway she stepped bet him and Paris, her body language not for a moment conveying she was at a disadvantage in spite of the disparity in their statures. That's Janeway! I also like how Rocky weaves in the theme suggested by the title.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 14:02:07 -0500

24Raconteur by Cait N.
I enjoyed reading about this gossipy little captain's yacht with lots of personality--and blackmail material.

25Rank Has Its Privileges by Rocky
It was fun to read of Janeway's frustration as she was trapped on the. I loved the banter between her and Chakotay and the double entendres. And I loved the twist implied by those last lines.

27The Rose Garden by RoseKira
Nicely angsty Janeway monologue.

28Saving Strangers by janezy
As Janezy says in the summary for "Saving Strangers," this story is about Kathryrn and Chakotay…and Kathryn--Endgame Admiral Kathryn. I thought the story was well done, with a fascinating premise. I found Chakotay's relationship with the "Elder Kathryn" affecting and poignant. I thought Janezy did right by both Janeways, their strengths and their flaws, such as their savior complex. "Saving Strangers" also provided an edgier and different endgame indeed with more than one twist I didn't see coming. Just when you think the story is finished, the plot as they say, thickens.

This was a nice Janeway/Chakotay romance.

30Speaking into the silence by vanhunks
I liked the way Van Hunks detailed how Janeway knew Chakotay so well that she could detect every nuance of his moods, even when he hid it behind a facade of good humor. I liked how in the story Janeway for once took it upon herself to support him.
-- Rabble Rouser - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 14:10:25 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
Reading any story by Jemima Pereira is a pleasure both for its smooth, stylish narrative with quite a few memorable phrases and for its unerring way with the Voyager characters. In a few paragraphs at the opening Jemima Pereira perfectly sets the point in time in Voyager's journey and how events have affected Janeway and her relationship with Chakotay. The story then segues well into the story of the Borg baby and why it did not "thrive." I like the shifting perspectives and how the two themes connect up as well as the satisfying ending. "Thrive" was an enjoyable and memorable short story effectively told.

35Wigglewort by Christina
I liked this dog and puppy tale that nicely tied up a loose end. I particularly enjoyed the reference to Porthos

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
I suspect Christine gives us more than we should really expect from J/C at this late stage, but it's a wonderfully sketched portrait of uncertainty and three people coming to grips with the tectonic shifts their lives have undergone. And a little, tiny ray of hope which isn't unwelcome.
-- the stylus - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 17:30:07 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
A scenario that has been played before, but Seema's deft touch and excellent dialogue rejuvenate it. This is Janeway at her most fun: arch, knowing, and totally in control.

2Adagio by Cait N.
Cute story. My favorite part was the reason why Chakotay was at the Academy that summer.

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
ChristineCGB has such a lovely, lyrical flow to her writing and this story isn't an exception. I love the initial dynamic between Chakotay and Seven - the 'trying' and the distance, both - and then the painful honesty of the conversation between Janeway and Chakotay. Christine says this is possibly her last J/C fic, but I seriously hope it's not as her 'voice' in VOY fic is truly memorable.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:10:43 -0500

7Coffee Fiend by janezy
I like the premise of this story - the 'filling in of the blanks' of Janeway's coffee addiction. And Chakotay's offer at the end is wonderful.

8Daddy's Girl by Cait N.
A very sweet vignette. I liked it.

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
Ah, this story is by far my favorite J/C story of this year. Djinn deftly weaves myth with reality in creating an intelligent and haunting romance tinged with regret. Janeway and Chakotay are both written beautifully here and the scenes, the descriptions - all of it is perfection. Djinn does an exceptional job of setting the mood and scene. The twist at the end is not forced but flows perfectly. Yet another outstanding story from Djinn.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:40:56 -0500

12Easy by Rocky
This is a perfect Janeway vignette, really getting to the heart of her character - everything Janeway is and feels is perfectly expounded upon in this fic, written with feeling and lovely description.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:43:13 -0500

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
This is one of those fics that bears up under multiple readings given the many layers Jemima has filled this story with. Canon is woven carefully throughout. I especially love Chakotay here - he's so patient and so caring, never snapping though he has every reason to do so. There are so many beautiful moments in this story and a poignant and surprising ending. A truly stellar effort.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:47:00 -0500

18Morning Light by Djinn
A really beautiful morning-after scene. Djinn really knows how to convey mood and this one is filled with both sweetness and tension. The dialogue between Janeway and Chakotay was well-done.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:50:37 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
I really enjoy stories where Janeway makes the first move and this one is no exception. This fic is from a rare Chakotay perspective and it captures his voice perfectly. Nice job.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 22:55:40 -0500

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
A really beautiful story and a perfect response to the desert crossing challenge. This is quintessential Janeway - stubborn and determined. Nice work.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:00:53 -0500

23Quit by Rocky
A beautiful story about the pain of loss and the regret of missed chances and opportunities. Chakotay here is very sympathetic. The conclusion is haunting and poignant. Definitely one to file under "must-read."

24Raconteur by Cait N.
Bwahaha, it's been so long since I've read a shuttlecraft fic and this one is truly a fun treat! Thanks for sharing.

25Rank Has Its Privileges by Rocky
This fic proves Rocky can write anything, no matter how impossible or illogical the set-up is . There is lots of trademark Rocky humor in this fic and a couple of puns too. The whole fic is fun, so without giving too much away, the ending is really priceless.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:12:54 -0500

26RESOLUTION AND COMMITMENT by T'Lin
A nice Chakotay perspective on their stay on New Earth.

27The Rose Garden by RoseKira
Yet another painful and angsty fic from RoseKira. This is an interesting story.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:17:20 -0500

28Saving Strangers by janezy
I love this fic for its startling insight. The idea that Janeway is so willing to save other people - even strangers - but not herself sums up her character perfectly. I especially enjoyed the dialogue between Chakotay and Admiral Janeway. Another terrific fic from janezy.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:21:34 -0500

32Thrive by Jemima
Finally, an explanation as to where that Borg baby has been all this time! This is really a lovely story - sad, sentimental, but not schmoopy at all. I love the way Janeway came to her final conclusion about the baby, about making a decision of what to do for it. The result is a perfectly efficient and logical solution - perfect for a Borg baby.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:31:37 -0500

34Touching Feeling by SaRa
An angsty vignette that could easily be either Janeway or Chakotay - the feelings are probably felt by both.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:34:05 -0500

33Time Standing Still I & II by Tracy Thurman
A nice, introspective look at the J/C relationship from Janeway's POV. I'm enjoyed the follow-up as it ties things up nicely.

35Wigglewort by Christina
Cute. I liked this look at the relationship between Janeway and Chakotay. It was a nice touch to include Mark and his wife.

14Hold the Lift by janezy
A unique take on the classic 'stuck in a turbolift' scenario. I really enjoyed the conversation between Janeway and Chakotay.
-- Seema - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:45:42 -0500

15Hollow by janezy
An interesting and innovative explanation for Chakotay's tattoo. Not to mention, a nice bit of angst over the same.

2Adagio by Cait N.
A sweet what-if scenario... how different things might have been if this had been part of their past!

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
This story makes me sad, only because Christine says it's her last one for this pairing. She has such a masterful way with words, illuminating characters in just a few lines. The albatross imagery is perfectly used.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 08:50:58 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
Seema shows why she is one of the best there is. This story is a parody to those who see it, a happy babyfic for those who don't. I find it LOL funny.

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
I love it when Djinn writes J/C; she understands the relationship and the characters perfectly. But it's the detail that makes this story memorable. Even if the reader suspects where it might be headed, the journey is vivid and fresh from the setting and atmosphere. Very well done.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 08:56:15 -0500

12Easy by Rocky
I like the way Rocky thinks, and the way she makes Janeway think. This turns the whole logic of what is easy in life on its head. It's a plausible moment of revelation.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 08:59:27 -0500

10Dead by SaRa
I'm not a big angst fan, but the end of this story was both credible and sad. No happy endings for anyone, but a trust and a bond that can't be denied.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:02:14 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
The conversation that never happened but should have. Nice work, Seema!

15Hollow by janezy
A little bit of angst with an interesting idea - that Chakotay's tattoo is more than a symbol. I like the concept.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:05:20 -0500

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
I hope this isn't Jemima's last J/C, because I enjoy her stories so much. This one is no exception. She reminds of the frustrations and missed opportunities of the seven-year journey, and then sets up a happy ending - which makes me happy.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:08:47 -0500

18Morning Light by Djinn
I just love this story. The differences between the characters of Janeway and Chakotay are fully presented, and entirely true to what we saw on the show. I like the idea that several years have passed, enough time for them each to have moved on, and yet they haven't. Seven's departure is treated respectfully. The dialogue is perfect and I love the idea that Janeway set it up. This is one of my favorite J/C stories this year.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:12:00 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
Rocky teases us here, and in doing so, highlights the sadness of the relationship. If only Chakotay were precognitive - but he's not, and things probably happened differently.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:13:52 -0500

23Quit by Rocky
A ghost story indeed - about feelings that just won't die, no matter how life battered them. Very nice.

25Rank Has Its Privileges by Rocky
Rocky tackles the "stuck in the turbolift" story with panache. It's playful, suggestive and great fun.

32Thrive by Jemima
Jemima again shows her understanding of the Borg collective. I like the way the baby's failure to thrive away from the Collective mirror's Kathryn's failure to thrive in her self-imposed isolation. Very poignant.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:24:52 -0500

33Time Standing Still I & II by Tracy Thurman
I was glad to see Tracy writing J/C again. She captures the essence of time distortion in life very nicely.
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:25:57 -0500

35Wigglewort by Christina
Christina has a knack for taking ordinary moments and givign them context and depth. And I love the salute to Porthos!
-- Penny Proctor - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:27:04 -0500

3The Albatross by Christinecgb
Of course Seven would make a chart. Christine tosses off wonderful characterizations of Chakotay and Seven on her way to her own, incomparable Janeway. Chakotay's doubts about C/7 are far more convincing than in the average C/7 breakup fic. He gets some lovely lines, such as the one about "the distance in between" and, of course, "You missed." The twist about Kathryn's crew is marvellous. In just a few paragraphs, Christine sketches out an entire post-Endgame scenario, raises the question of the meaninglessness of post-Endgame life, *and* makes J/C convincing. More stories should be like this one.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:50:40 -0500

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
This story is insanely funny. From Chakotay whispering "akoochemoya" in Janeway's ear to the EMH withholding vital information to the triple-breasted whor--I mean, Kon'Aia, this story was a chuckle a minute. Once the red alert began, I couldn't stop laughing. The tattoo alone was priceless. You haven't read babyfic until you've read And Baby Makes Five.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:51:53 -0500

7Coffee Fiend by janezy
Chakotay knows his addict. This is a fun look into Janeway's long history with the beverage and Chakotay's idea of rehab.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:52:24 -0500

8Daddy's Girl by Cait N.
I enjoyed this sweet J/C scene at home, especially the exchange at the end.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:53:18 -0500

9Day of the Dead by Djinn
Kudos to Djinn for doing something exciting and new with Chakotay's heritage. There are no akoochemoyas in this story, just a mysterious tour guide and a Janeway who takes her last chance at J/C happiness. I knew something odd was happening, but the ending was still a thrilling twist.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:54:28 -0500

11Defining Boundaries by Seema
Janeway, typically, wants to regulate dating. Chakotay takes the free-for-all, Maquis approach. They debate the issue over dinner, with Seema juggling the two levels of the conversation without ever dropping the ball. The resolution of the argument is perfect.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:54:51 -0500

12Easy by Rocky
The lovely language of this vignette had me convinced, along with Janeway, that "the law of averages was against them." The twist at the end hit home, too.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:55:54 -0500

15Hollow by janezy
I loved what janezy did here with Chakotay's tattoo. The last line was great.

18Morning Light by Djinn
The last thing I expected to see in this large category of a large series was a fresh take on J/C, but Morning Light surprised me. I figured every fanon explanation of the failure of J/C had been done to death, but Djinn has put her mark on a new one. Chakotay is just too serious - it's brilliant! I'm sure it will make its way into fanon soon.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:56:57 -0500

19Night Visitor by Rocky
Somebody hit the reset button! The dialogue between Janeway and Chakotay was so well-done that it took the twist at the end for me to realize that it had been *too* warm.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:57:31 -0500

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
Nothing stands in the way of Penny's writing well-crafted, well-plotted J/C fic - not even death. She does so much here with dialogue alone, going over Janeway's past emotions and decisions while keeping the story going in the present vivid desert. The ending took me completely by surprise the first time I read it. Thanks for a lovely fic.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:58:03 -0500

23Quit by Rocky
Rocky's insight into the Chakotay of almost-but-not-quite-J/C is unparalleled. Here Janeway's death leads him to contemplate their past. Even more than the things that went bump in the night, I appreciated his realization of just how long he'd been in mourning already, and why.
-- Jemima - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 01:58:26 -0500

This was...impressive. I didn't know Janeway was such a schemer. I wonder how much Tuvok knows.

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
This is hilarious! Your Chakotay almost had me falling off the chair a couple of times, not to mention the names of those poor babies. Chaka Kahn! *g* Wonderful.

19Night Visitor by Rocky
oh oh She tricked me with the ending! But I like it anyway. At first I thought it was Janeway speaking (it's been a while since I've seen any Voyager episodes and my mind's fuzzy at the best of times), then realized it was Chakotay and things clicked into place. A nice read - even if the ending wasn't what I'd hoped, Rocky left it up to our imaginations if things happened the way Chaktoay dreamed them). I can live with that. lol

20Oasis by Penny Proctor
I was doing good up until Harry and the Doc talked to her in sickbay. I like the fact that she's an admiral, and still in charge of Voygaer. And at least some of her old crew are still with her. Now that I think about it, it could have been Harry as Captain and he's just ferrying her around. Regardless of who's in charge, it was a well-written story that made me feel warm inside and then get all misty eyed. A good story.

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
I liked how Jemima blended "Resolutions", "Basics", "Coda","Scorpion", "Equinox", "Fair Haven", "Unimatrix Zero","Workforce", and "Endgame" together. Crafty! And them back on New Earth - with no immediate hope of rescue - I kind of like that idea.

23Quit by Rocky
No! No matter how many times I read this, I still hope that it will turn out to be Seven. I guess not every ending can be hunky-dory, and sunshine and roses. But I'm glad that Chakotay found a modicum of peace.

ROTFL! Seema deftly skewers every cliche of the pregnant Janeway genre. I wouldn't want to get too close to the captain and those knitting needles, either!

Janeway's thoughts in this story are very true to the character -- always ignoring her own needs and focused on avoiding complications. Great last sentence.

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
Jemima gives us the Janeway and Chakotay that we loved in the early years of Voyager, and this time they stay consistent throughout the series. Okay, maybe it's a bit sappy, but I enjoyed the ending.

32Thrive by Jemima
A gloomy Janeway who can't get over her depression and a Borg baby who misses her cube -- somehow, they turn out to be more alike than one might think. I love the use of color as a metaphor in this story.

16Honey-Dew by Jemima
One would perhaps expect the title to become a pun, as in 'honey do this, honey do that" -- but the story is not about that. However, the title is still fitting, as one discovers upon reading it through to the end. Chakotay isn't quite what he seems; still waters run deep, after all. And for once Janeway's met her match. He has just the planet in mind. And fanfix gets twisted in Jemima fashion, abandoning the AU approach of leaving them on New Earth for the extension-of-canon AU approach of having them ... well, you'll see.

4And Baby Makes Five by Seema
Subtlety in spoofing gets bonus points from me. Loved the baby names, the sharp pointy knitting needles, Chakotay's denseness, and the Doctor's ... well, I guess he was pretty much in character. And Harry's pitch for a promotion. V. funny.

13He Never Looked At Me That Way by Elisabeth Cook
This is absolutely the best "reason for the Chakotay/Seven relationship" story I've read. Period. Elisabeth writes in such a way that I actually feel sorry for the pair. And at least we have the hope that things will be right in the end.
