FAQ Prelude to Alt.StarTrek.Creative.All-Ages Version: 2.01 Updated: January 6, 2002 This FAQ is was designed to make it easier for everyone to enjoy alt.startrek.creative.all-ages. If you have any suggestions, please email the FAQ Maintainer at stephen at trekiverse dot org. Prelude ------- This FAQ is designed to explain what alt.startrek.creative.all- ages (ASCA) is and how it runs. Alt.StarTrek.Creative.All-Ages is for the posting of works of Star Trek Fan Fiction suitable for older children and young teens to read. In short, it's the [PG-13] or less version of ASC. This is not a kiddie group. However parents can let their children read from this newsgroup without concern about [NC-17] material being present. It is moderated and does not permit graphic sex, extreme violence, or presentation of concepts (such as bdsm, drug use, etc.) or relationships in which the characters are shown to be engaged in behaviour of an adult and/or controversial nature which parents might feel is inappropriate to children. Harmonic Rules -------------- In general, we judge stories by rating. You will find no stories that would get rated R if they were filmed on this newsgroup. There are some other specifics that you won't see. Stories depicting doctor/patient relationships, relationships between superiors and subordinates, or adultery will be automatically rejected. Personal conversations, advertisements, binaries and the general discussion of Star Trek is also not permitted here. While we encourage reasoned discussion of stories, appeals, and policy, the moderators will not post messages that are abusive, slanderous, contain foul language, or include name calling. In other words, no flaming. Also, please only post your work or works that you have permission to post. Everything that is posted to ASCA save those that notify us in the header will be archived at Trekiverse. Trekiverse is in the process of setting up an archive specifically for ASCA. The Conductor's Baton --------------------- The moderators of ASCA now can post without waiting for another moderator to approve. However, should a moderator reject your post, it takes 2 other moderators to override. Only three moderators can vote on any given story. Should a story get two reject decisions, the poster will be notified by the senior moderator, and may appeal. All stories posted to ASCA are crossposted to alt.startrek.creative. Upon receiving a post in the moderation queue, the moderator can chose to send either of these messages (cut and added as needed): You post to alt.startrek.creative.all-ages (included below) has been rejected for the following reasons: * Not a Star Trek Story, response, or related administrative announcement. * Massively Crossposted * In binary or unreadable format * Not rated [PG-13] or less If you have further questions as to why your post was rejected, moderated groups, or the running of the newsgroup, please feel free to contact the moderator on duty at ascatrekfic crosswinds.net or the Senior Moderator at stephen trekiverse.org Moderator on duty ---- Your post to alt.startrek.creative.all-ages titled: Has been received by the moderator on duty and is currently being reviewed for rating. Finale ------ In short, ASCA is the place where you'll find Star Trek Stories as you'd expect on television, rating wise. This means that we have to take more time to read and verify, but it's a group where you won't have to worry about your child running into something he or she shouldn't.
