Every ship that docked there was carefully scanned, crew manifests were investigated, and all cargoes being offloaded were scrutinized with the proverbial fine-tooth comb. Yet somehow, despite all these measures, a stowaway had been found - a Cardassian, no less! And one with an apparent sinister purpose in mind. Captain Sisko pierced at the non-descript little man found hiding in the lower pylon section of Deep Space Nine with a look of grim intensity. "Explain this again - you're saying you *weren't* sent here to kill us?" he demanded. "Please, captain, sir, have mercy!" he said, scraping and sniveling under the watchful glare of Commander Worf, "Yes, I, I stowed away on a freighter, but I mean you no harm! I am but a simple refugee from a cruel and unforgiving homeworld!" "And how did you evade all our scans?" "I, I cannot say! I just hid in a box! Oh please, don't send me back! They'll surely have me killed!" "If you are no more than an innocuous refugee, then explain why, when you were found, you were in possession of several kilograms of highly volatile explosive material," Worf demanded. "It was insurance," the man claimed. "I'm a laborer in a munitions plant! If I were to be caught fleeing, I'd be sentenced to death - by torture. The explosives were my route to escape that fate." "Then why," Worf asked harshly, "Were you planting them inside *our* hull plating?" The Cardassian licked his lips and looked around nervously. "As I said, insurance. I know too much! Be-believe me, if they knew I had come here, they'd have the same thing to you. By blowing you up, I would have been doing you all a favor!" "You'll forgive me if I don't overflow with gratitude," Sisko added dryly. Just then, Odo and Chief O'Brien strode into the room. "Captain, we've got him dead to rights," the chief crowed, waving a datapadd and another, less familiar device in the air. "It's all spelled on here," said Odo, not sparing their captive so much as a glare. "A very detailed outlinem, all in a code developed by the Obsidian Order, no less. "He had it all plotted out," O'Brien added, bringing up the schematics and notes for all to see "He'd have beamed right into one of our runabouts and blasted his way out while those bombs of his literally ripped the skin right off the station. Plus, there's this little jewel," he added, indicating the odd contraption. "It's a personal cloaking device that has Dominion tech seeded all through it!" "No! It's all lies, Captain! Please, you must..." "Let's see," Miles said, ignoring the Cardassian as he flipped scanned through the pages of plans, "How to get on board, how to pilot a runabout, how to set the damn bombs, and - well, whaddaya know? 'Breach hull, all die'! Even had it underlined!" he snorted. Abruptly, the little man's cowering posture snapped straight and he lunged for Miles's throat with a snarl, only to be brought up short as Worf grasped one arm from behind and Odo seized the other from the front. "Weaklings!" their prisoner growled. "The day will come when Cardassia ascends above all, and you will all bow before its might!" "Maybe," Sisko said with a smile. "But the only 'ascending' today will be done by you - to one of the constable's cells." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ billfl@hiwaay.net http://home.hiwaay.net/~billfl "If you're dumb, surround yourself with smart people.
