"And that's how I ended up here, Captain."  Chapel looked sideways at
Kirk to see if he was buying her story.

He wasn't.  "Cockroaches?  This big?"  He held his arms wide, the way
she'd done.  "In your quarters?"

She nodded solemnly, let the sheet slide away as he joined her in bed.

"Why, Miss Chapel.  That's terrible.  On my ship?"

She nodded again.  

They didn't talk for a long time.  Med school was great, but not as
great as being with him.

"Didn't like the guest quarters, huh?" he asked with a grin.

"Nope.  They were too far from you."
