KEIKO: THE ACCIDENTAL KAI

"I still don't understand," Miles whispered. "What made the assembly pick
Keiko to replace Winn?"

"My experiments with Leola Root," Keiko sighed glumly from the ornate
ceremonial chair, "A fast growing plant Voyager found on the other side of the
galaxy. I discovered it grows extremely well in the Parthan Desert.  It even
aids irrigation."

Kira nodded. "And one of the sure signs of divinity on most worlds is making
the desert bloom."

"This is ridiculous!" Keiko exclaimed.  "I don't want to be Kai!  I *can't* be
Kai - I'm not even Bajoran!"

"Neither was the Emissary," Kira pointed out gently.
