Jim Kirk declared from the depths of his soul. "Oh man, isn't that a bit too much pathos?" Gary Mitchell looked up from his text book where he tried to learn his own part of the play they were rehearsing. Jim Kirk gave him an insulted glare. "If we members of Starfleet don't believe in the freedom of choice in this universe, who else should?" "You're just a little ensign at the Academy, Jim. It sounds weird when you're walking around here like some freedom fighter from the Middle Ages." Jim Kirk sank down on his bunk. "One day, our time will be looked at as the Middle Ages of the Federation, Gary. And when should I allow myself thinking like that? When I'm Commander? When I'm Captain?" "In the Fleet, you'll have your freedom when you're Admiral...maybe." Gary shoved his text book aside. His role was meager, while Kirk - as always - was the star. And he could understand it; his friend was just a shining, charming presence wherever he went. He was a beautiful boy, and his dark-blond hair was lightly curled and a tad longer than regulations called for, but Jim liked it like that. And the girls liked it too, but he largely ignored them in favor of his studies. He was an exemplary student. Outstanding. The pearl. Suddenly Gary couldn't stand this glow anymore. A decision rose in him; he would show that idealistic kid that it was more than easy to take away someone's freedom and peace of soul. And, on the way, steal some of the gleam and shimmer, spoil the pearl, put dirty little spots on the almost virginal soul. He stood up and walked over to Kirk, removing his friend's text book and carelessly dropping it to the floor. "What're you doing?" Jim asked in surprise. "There is something I've always wanted to do," Gary said, and leaned down to press a first kiss on angelic lips. *** ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ASCEM messages are copied to a mailing list.
