Amanda held her son in her arms. His back was ramrod straight, his face expressionless. He gave her no notice that he even acknowledged her embrace. She brushed his hair away from his face. He seemed so small, so vulnerable, despite the brave front he tried to keep up. "My son, it's all right. No matter what they say, you're no less of a person for being half human." "Not less of a person, less Vulcan." "And is that all that counts, Spock? Do you have to try to be more of a Vulcan than any other boy? Can't you see yourself as part of the Vulcan ideal? That you are maybe the most beautiful expression of IDIC I've ever seen?" She cupped his chin in her hand and kissed her child. ************************************************************ T'Pring held his hand throughout the ceremony. The understated rite contrasted with the passion burning in her heart. She understood she was supposed to learn how to control her emotions, even as her body began to surge with the hormones unleashed with her first Pon Farr. Though Vulcan females didn't experience the full onslaught that males had to endure, through the bond created in the ceremony with her chosen mate she felt the chaos of his mind. As the high priestess droned on, T'Pring was bombarded with waves of lust and animalistic impulses. She was tormented by his base emotions, and disgusted when those urges surfaced in herself. But it was an honor being betrothed to an ambassador's son, even if he was half human. With a final gesture, the priestess gave her blessing to the union. Spock grabbed T'Pring's shoulders. He kissed her, deep in the throes of a passion more chemical than emotional and roughly stripped her . They consummated their ceremony as countless generations of honored Vulcan youth had in the temple of Khalol. *********************************************************** Christine kept watch over Spock's apparently lifeless body. Except for the occasional beep from the sensors, the sickbay was quiet. She trusted the equipment, but she still wanted to be there when he awoke from the Vulcan healing trance. She had no illusions about her place in his life. All those fantasies about the patient falling in love with his nurse or those about true love melting the hardest heart all faded when she faced the truth about Spock. He was a Vulcan, and Vulcans were that way. At least he was to her. But a woman still wants her heart's fancy realized, no matter how illogical that fantasy might be. She sighed and gave Spock a quick peck on the cheek, and went back to her reports. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
