It was good, Julian reflected, to have someone with whom the question of sex or romance never came up. A safe, confortable, solid rock kind of person whom you could never see yourself attracted to. Just a friend. Like Miles.

He was lucky to have Miles. Though he had always been a popular lover, Julian had few close companions he did not want to shag. He could talk to Miles, and Miles would listen, and pat him on the back oh-so-manly, and they would both go home to their girlfriends and wives, sleeping beside them in silent horror of their hidden thoughts and wants and lusts. Just friends.

Just and only friends and never more.

Never.
