Warning: Another attempt to defend DS9's honour, especially as my first attempt at a G/O Call of Duty challenge response, "Revenge," was judged unworthy of a point by Stephen "He Whose Challenges Must Be Obeyed" Ratliff. But I'm not bitter :-). Spoilers: DS9 Season #4, up to and including the season ender "Broken Link." In fact, it probably won't make much sense outside the context of that episode. Not that I can guarantee it will make sense within that context either. Disclaimer: No latinum, credits, or any other past, present or future version of filthy lucre exchanged hands for this story. No oomox, linking, Cardassian neck tricks, or other forms of sexual favours were exchanged either, damn it. Summary: Stephen's Call of Duty challenge response: the story told love too :-). Dedication: To Stephen Ratliff, whose marvellous challenges inspired all three stories, and has been instrumental in my recovery from perfectionism. No, this isn't a shameless attempt to bribe my way into his good graces! I'm appalled you would even suggest such a thing :-p. Feedback: Other than assertions that there's nothing sexual about Cardassian neck tricks (you have your fantasies, I have mine), feedback is very welcome. I can be reached in my bed avoiding housework at Elizabeth loves her thesaurus @ hotmail.com (without spaces) or on the list. Archiving: As long as you take the two stories that come before it, I'm not likely to send Odo to arrest you or Garak to torture you. However, as "Let the Punishment Fit the Crime" demonstrated, I have no control over what these characters decide to do on their own time. Quote stolen from a guest star of TNG: "Do your duty today and repent tomorrow." Mark Twain Reuse Garak sat in the Defiant's Infirmary, watching his former lover die. Odo used you, Elim reminded himself. The Changeling had manipulated his loneliness and guilt, in order to learn solid intimacies without the risk of rejection or emotional entanglement. Of course, he'd exploited Odo's insecurities in turn, Garak mused, prolonging their affair so he could serve some other purpose than simply hemming pants. Forgive me, Odo, he thought, for the moment the Founders responded to Sisko's distress call, he would betray him again. For in the service of Cardassia, exploitation of those you loved was merely another name for duty. - end - ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ASCEM messages are copied to a mailing list.
