Challenge #7 will be called: He's Dead Jim. During the Original Series, Doctor McCoy was always saying those words. In fact, he said them so much that De Forest Kelly apparently once joked that it would be on his tombstone. For this challenge, your job is to inform someone that a character is dead. It can be in the form of the "I regret to inform you..." letter, a personal visit, the infamous "He's Dead Jim" line, or something entirely new. I'll be keeping track of who is dead as part of this challenge. At the end of the period I'll tell you who is dead the most and what position is the most dangerous. The deadline for scoring on this set of challenges is 12/31/2004, as determined by the end of the year post. For challenges that first appear on ASCEM, two points can be earned by both the series and the author. For any challenge response that appears on ASC first, a single point will be earned. Challenges issued new on ASC will not appear on ASCEM until it's deadline of 11/20/2004. 5 bonus points will be earned for an author for each series beyond one. The other currently open challenges are: Challenge #4 Canonically Incorrect. There is one thing in this fic that doesn't fit into canon (and only one). It's artfully hidden, of course. It maybe something as simple as where one item is, or who is at the helm. A separate mini-challenge will be for a) how many people post and get the wrong canon fact and b) who guesses the most right. Challenge #6: The Other Sex Many authors have tried to change over a character or characters sex and see what it does to the series. Some prime examples have been My Fair Jeanne by Ruth Gifford and Jane Kirk's Enterprise by Alara Rogers. In this challenge you may take any way to do so, and it may happen at any time (past or present) but one or more characters must be the other sex from what we see them normally. Currently running on ASC: #1 Bad Titles ... with another to premier shortly.
