Neither said a word to their growling husband as they finished their fussing and Tom left for duty on the bridge helping Tuvok with the repairs to the damaged ship. "Why can't I just do some light duty on the bridge, Tam?" Chakotay complained wondering how he would keep busy for the day. He was not used to inactivity and this enforced rest was already making his frustration levels rise. "Let's see. Your foot was badly crushed by that heavy metal beam and I spent most of the night healing it as much as I could. You need some rest for a couple of days until I know for sure that your foot is totally healed," his wife bent over and kissed his forehead. "Plus, with the doctor off line I have to tend to Sickbay for the next day or so and we have several injuries there. So actually you have a choice, Tay." "Like I have a lot of choices at the moment," he growled again at her as he shifted his injured limb to make it more comfortable. She expertly ignored his growling as she ran a hand through his hair and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Well, I could take you to Sickbay with me and let you lie around on a biobed all day while I keep an eye on you so you don't strain yourself. I'm sure you could keep amused by grumbling with the other patients," Tamara jibbed as she ignored his latest outburst while she tucked a blanket around him. With the low energy on the ship at the moment, the temperature had been lowered to conserve power. "No way am I going to be stuck in Sickbay for the entire day. I would go out of my mind." He growled again and there was a sulky look in his eyes. "Who's going to take care of me while you and Tom are on duty?" "The twins," she answered with a grin. "There's no one to be spared for daycare right now and they need supervision. So you're it for the day. Kolo and Charlin will be more than happy to take care of papa for the day." As if on cue, the twins came bounding into the living room and crawled up on their father settling in his lap which instantly put him in a good mood. His children were the most important things in the universe to him outside of his spouses. He wrapped his arms around them and felt ashamed for growling at his wife. "You `kay, papa?" Kolopak asked feeling safe and secure in the big man's arms with his sister, Charlin beside him. "Yeah, baby. I'm okay," his own dark eyes gazed into his son's dark green eyes. Both looked a lot like their father, but you could see Tamara's features mixed in there somewhat. He kissed them sending them into giggles as he tickled them in the ribs. "No wild parties and no rough play while I'm at work," Tamara told them sternly with a mocking tone in her voice. "Can you two take good care of papa while I'm at work? He hurt his foot and has to stay on the couch all day except to go to the bathroom. You two have to do everything else. Up to the challenge?" "Yes, mommy," Kolopak answered while Charlin nodded yes. "Come, give me a kiss so I can go to work," she smiled at her husband glad he had the kids to divert his attention from the ship and the damage that had recently been done in the last attack. Besides the physical break, her husband could use the break from the mental stress as well. They scrambled off of the couch and gave her each a kiss. "Where Daddy?" Charlin asked. "Daddy is helping Mr. Tuvok fix Voyager. I have to go fix the Captain and anyone else who may be hurt, sweetheart." She gently brushed the long black hair out of the dark brown eyes and hugged her little girl. "So I need you to help take care of Papa while I'm gone, okay?" "Okay, Mommy, I take care of papa for you." Charlin replied as she turned and climbed back into her father's lap. She took her duty to her father seriously. "Yeah, Mommy. Go to work. We'll be fine," Chakotay grinned at her feeling better about not being on duty. He could just set back and enjoy his children. "Tell Kathryn I send my regards." "I'll be back as soon as I can. I don't know who needs more supervision you or the twins," she teased as they kissed once more and she headed out the door to SickBay. ************ "Okay, what do you want to do first?" Chakotay asked when they showed signs of restlessness a little while later. He enjoyed just sitting there and holding them, but being kids they got restless and energetic very quickly. "Read us a story, Papa," Kolo suggested as they climbed down from his lap and he dashed off for his bedroom followed by his sister. A few moments later, they were back each carrying an armload of real books dumping them in Chakotay's lap. Tamara and Tom had a love for the old- fashioned paper books insisting they were better than PADDs. Picking a book at random, he opened it up and waited for the youngsters to climb up and get comfortable in his lap. "Can you do the funny voices like Daddy?" Kolo asked curious. "I'll try," he grinned at his son as he began to read the fairy tale to them. After the story it was time for cookies and milk from the replicator. The twins made sure Papa stayed on the couch while they got the food. When the snack was consumed and crumbs were everywhere it was time for another story. Four books and an ankle rub later, Chakotay needed something to drink so he ordered fruit juice from the replicator via the comm system and smiled as the kids waited on him hand and foot. Time to play games so the twins drug all the board and computer games out from their room so Papa could help them play. Everything had to be brought to him since he was not suppose to move around per mommy's instructions and they were serious about following her orders. With everything that had to be done to fix Voyager and get it back in shape to continue the journey, neither Tamara nor Tom was able to make it home until late in the evening. ************ Tamara met Tom in the corridor just outside of their quarters later that evening. Cat was staying overnight with Naomi so they just had to worry about Chakotay and the twins. Kissing, they held hands as they entered the First Officer's quarters of Deck Four. Of course with two very active four-year-olds and one indulgent father who isn't suppose to move around much the living area was a total disaster area. The two adults smiled at the sight of the three asleep on the couch. Chakotay had his head resting on the back of the couch with his mouth open and a snoring party going on while the twins were each curled up under a burly arm asleep against their father's chest. Tom grabbed the holocamera for a quick shot before one of them woke up. Smiling even more, Tamara motioned for him to get Charlin while she took Ko from under Chakotay's arm hoping not to wake him. "Let's put the twins to bed and then we'll work on sleeping beauty here." "Okay," Tom got into the spirit of the playing Tamara was going to do with their husband. With his daughter sleeping in his arms, he followed his wife down the hall to the twin's bedroom and they put them to bed. Back out in the living area, their husband was still snoring away not at all undisturbed by the people and their actions around him. Having watched his twins all day had wore him out but you'll never get the First Officer of Voyager to admit that. "How are we going to do this, babe? I mean he's not exactly a light weight for us to be carrying around," Tom asked curiously. "He's been off of his foot most of the day. We could just put a blanket on him and leave him like this, but I don't think he'll be very happy without us to cuddle up with," Tamara smiled at her younger husband giving him a kiss. "I'm awake and I want to go to bed with the two of you, so help me up. I want you in my arms when I go to sleep," their sleepy-eyed husband murmured as he got up from the couch with their help. "Sure thing, Chakotay." Tom said as they helped their husband to his feet and helped him into the bedroom. A short while later, all three were curled up together in their bed. "Did the kids give you any problems, Tay?" Tamara asked as she laid her head on his chest so she could listen to his heartbeat. "There was no problems, baby. We had fun. We ate pizza, read stories, played games and watched movies all day. Thank you," he kissed the top of her head knowing that she was wise in her own way. "We know it's not easy for you to get time to spend with the children and this seemed like one way to do it. I'm glad you had a good time. How does your foot feel?" she rubbed her hand across his smooth chest enjoying the feel of his silky skin. "Feels fine." Sleep was claiming him once again exhaustion from watching two rambutious twins all day letting him know how tired his body was. "Sleep well, Chakotay." Tom kissed him and settled down on his other side after kissing his wife good night. "Good night, Tam, Tom," Chakotay murmured softly as he slipped into peaceful dreams. Smiling, his spouses curled up under his big strong arms and slipped into sleep. In the other room, the twins slept having had a hard day of taking care of their papa.
